What to do if Pal dies: collapse, terminal, bed and medicine

Determine first whether it's a battle down, a sick base, or a SAN/starvation-induced shutdown; how to handle it varies.

Is this the problem you have?

My Pal is down or shown as unable to fight. Is he permanently dead?

Quick answer

Most cases are not permanent death. Bringing the fallen Pal back to the Palbox/terminal to wait for recovery is the most basic method that beginners should know first; if there is a long-term abnormality in the base, they need to check the food, bed, hot spring, SAN and medicine.

Don’t panic yet: most are incapacitated (fallen)

A Pal is knocked immobile during combat, which looks like death to a newbie, but is usually not a permanent loss. The common solution is to put the fallen Pal back into the Palbox/terminal and wait for recovery or use the corresponding mechanism. Different versions, world settings and servers may affect the details, so this article does not write down the time as an absolute guarantee; but "returning to the terminal for processing" is the most stable first step.

If you're just starting out, the most important thing is to think of Pals as manageable party and base members rather than disposable summons. What you have to do after it falls is to change teams, retreat, go home, and repair it, instead of thinking that the entire save file is broken. This is also the most valuable part of unofficial guides: in-game tips may not explain this matter clearly enough.

Fallen in battle: Return to the terminal, change teams, and replenish consumption.

When Pal falls during combat, first determine whether you can still retreat safely. If possible, return to the base or the nearest fast travel points, put the fallen Pal into the Palbox/terminal to wait for recovery, and replace it with another available Pal. Don't just keep running with a team with residual health, because you will then lack output, tankiness, and capture control.

After returning home, check why you fell: the level difference is too big, your attributes are at a disadvantage, you don't have the roll-to-dodge skill, you didn't recall Pal when the target's HP was low, or there were not enough Spheres, which caused the battle to drag on for too long. Dealing with a fallen Pal is not just about returning it to the terminal, but more importantly about correcting the flow of the next battle.

Abnormality in the base: falling down, being sick, and being stressed are not the same thing

If a Pal in the base is lying down, down, sick, or in poor condition, it does not necessarily mean he died in combat. Common reasons include hunger, low SAN, no bed, high work pressure, stuck paths, no corresponding materials, or confusing work assignments. If a beginners only puts the Pal in and out, the problem will reoccur very quickly.

First check whether there is food in the feed box, whether there are enough beds, whether hot springs or rest facilities are available, whether the workbench and boxes are blocked by buildings, and whether Pal has been assigned to a job for which he is not suitable. If symptoms occur, look to medicines and merchants for supplies. This line is a base management issue, not a combat team issue.

Bed and food are insurance, not decoration

Many beginners will build a house first, but forget that Pal needs a bed, food, and paths to walk on. The value of the bed is not decoration, but to provide basic rest conditions for base members; the location of the feed box should also allow Pal to get food smoothly. The denser the base facilities and the narrower the passages, the easier it is for seemingly metaphysical shutdowns to occur.

If you are just building your first stronghold, start with a simple, flat, short-path configuration. Don’t put too many obstacles between palboxes, bins, beds, feed bins and main workstations. In the beginners stage, you can build a beautiful base slowly, but a stable base should be completed first.

How to lower your next fall

In terms of combat, don't let Pal carry enemies that are beyond the level for a long time; remember to take it back when the HP control is high; prepare enough Spheres, food, shields and long-range means before entering the dungeon or boss. As for the base, don't let all Pals work with high pressure, check the SAN, food and beds regularly, and do more detailed division of labor after the monitoring station is unlocked.

Summary: Pal's collapse is not a declaration of failure, but a reminder to return to the terminal for team management. As long as you know "return to the terminal after a battle, check food/SAN/bed/path/medicine when the base is abnormal", beginners can turn the most terrifying accidents into routine maintenance.

Treat the terminal as a medical and personnel management center

The Palbox/Terminal is not just a place to store Pals, it is also the center of your team organization, base manpower, down recovery and labor dispatch strategies. After returning from the battle, first put back the fallen or left-health Pal, and replace it with a substitute who can work or fight; when there is a problem at the base, first check from the terminal whether the assigned Pal is suitable for the current station, instead of just chasing each Pal at the scene to see.

If a Pal keeps falling, it's probably not that it's too weak, but that you're putting it on a task it's not suited to. Combat Pal is used to carry high-level monsters, low SAN Pal is put into long-term high-pressure work, and Pal who is short of food is sent to carry long distances, which will lead to the deterioration of the state. The core of terminal management is to let each Pal do things consistent with its status and suitability.

Base medical treatment must also be registered. In the early stage, at least we know where the medicines come from, whether merchants can replenish them, and which diseases require corresponding medicines. Don't wait for the whole base to be lined up with sick people before researching medical care for the first time. If you don't have medicine for the time being, first reduce your work pressure, provide food, beds and rest facilities to prevent the problem from expanding.

For beginners, the most useful sentence is: Pal falling does not mean losing. Pal falling repeatedly is a system warning. If you fall for the first time, go back to the terminal to recover; if you fall for the second time, check the combat target or base conditions; if the same thing happens for the third time, you should change your strategy instead of fighting hard again.

The team must have substitutes, and not all five of them have the same purpose.

If your team is all of the same type of output, they will overturn together when encountering enemies with unfavorable attributes or high damage. Beginner teams would be wise to consider combat, capture control, movement, and backup damage all at the same time. Even if they are not the strongest, as long as one or two can take over when the main force falls, you can safely retreat or complete the capture.

The same goes for the base, don't bet all the critical work on one Pal. Once the sole ignition, sole handling or sole mining falls, becomes sick or is assigned to the wrong job, the entire production line stops. It will be more practical to grab a few more substitutes in the early stage than to pursue a perfect individual.

Version 1.0 recovery and care

Version 1.0 adds the Clinic and Ancient Civilization Clinic. Medicine Production suitability helps reduce SAN loss and illness among base Pals. Early on, use the Palbox to swap out incapacitated teammates and provide food and beds; add a clinic to long-term base care once unlocked.

Common mistakes

  • Treat Pal's collapse as permanent death, and be too panicked to continue playing.
  • When the base Pal is sick or out of service, it will only retract and retract the terminal, but will not check food, SAN, beds, and paths.
  • Pal is not recalled when capturing, causing it to take extra damage or kill the target.
