Reading IVs: Ability Glasses at level 34 and breeding-stock decisions
Every Pal hides a 0-100 individual value in HP, Attack, and Defense — the reason same-species, same-level Pals differ. Open your eyes with the level 34 Ability Glasses (green at 70+), plus 1.0's two-in-one Pal Tamer's Glasses.
Is this the problem you have?
Why is one Pal strong and its same-species, same-level twin weak? At what level can you see IVs? And how do the Pal Tamer's Glasses differ from the Ability Glasses?
Quick answer
IVs are hidden 0-100 values in HP, Attack, and Defense, partially inherited from parents. At level 34, spend 4 ancient tech points on the Ability Glasses to see them in menus and in the field (green at 70+); 1.0's Pal Tamer's Glasses merge them with the Mercy Ring. Defer breeding stock, condensation, and wild picks until your eyes are open.

Same species, same level — why one is stronger
After a stretch of breeding or catching, almost everyone hits the same puzzle: two same-species, same-level Pals where one tanks like a wall and the other folds instantly. The cause is IVs — every Pal carries hidden 0-100 values in HP, Attack, and Defense, fixed at birth and partially inherited from its parents.
The trouble: through the early and mid game you cannot see them at all. Panel stats blend level, passives, and enhancement bonuses, so eyeballing never reveals the underlying IVs. Until you own the Ability Glasses, every "this one feels stronger" stock decision is a guess.
Opening your eyes at 34: Ability Glasses and Pal Tamer's Glasses
At level 34 you unlock the Ability Glasses (ancient technology, 4 ancient tech points): wear them and every Pal's three IVs show in menus and in the open world, green at 70+. Breeding stock selection and wild high-IV hunting stop being guesswork.
There is also a 1.0 two-in-one accessory, the Pal Tamer's Glasses: Ability Glasses plus Mercy Ring (attacks never kill) merged into one slot, so HP-control captures and IV reading share a single accessory. Community sources place it around (8, 121) — pending on-site verification.
After the glasses: stock, condensation, wild catches
Stock: high-IV parents deserve their own box — IVs partially inherit, so the pool's floor sets the ceiling of every generation after it. For exact numbers on a given Pal, run the IV calculator to reverse-calculate them.
Condensation: max rank costs 48 same-species Pals — no small investment, so confirm the base Pal's IVs before pouring fodder into a low roll. Same for wild catches: scan first with the glasses, throw only at green numbers, and save both spheres and time. One more reminder: an Alpha frame does not mean high IVs — Alpha-egg hatches still need an eyes-open inspection (see the Alpha Pal egg guide)。
Eyes first, investment second
Lock in the order: before 34, progress normally and skip big stock or condensation bets; once your eyes open at 34, sweep your main team and breeding pool first, then commit to condensation and breeding routes. For the inheritance details of IVs and passives, see the breeding FAQ; for why a mutation egg seems to vanish at hatch, see the mutation egg guide。
Common mistakes
- Picking breeding stock by feel before level 34: IVs are invisible to the naked eye — defer stock and condensation decisions until the Ability Glasses open your eyes.
- Equating an Alpha frame with high IVs: Alpha eggs guarantee nothing about IVs — inspect hatches with the glasses like everything else.
- Reading panel stats as IVs: panels blend level, passives, and enhancements — they never expose the underlying 0-100 roll.
